TIME BALL

Built in the 1840's by convict labour, this blue stone tower originally
operated as a lighthouse and still operates as a timeball. Restored as an Australian Bicentennial project, the tower today is operated by a computer, which drops each day at 1pm. The tower is part of the Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park, which is currently being developed by Parks Victoria.

HMAS Castlemaine


Home of the HMAS Castlemaine Gem Pier offers Bay cruises and return trips to Southgate. The adjacent Commonwealth Reserve also offers a great venue for picnics. Gem Pier is also home to the HMAS Castlemaine, a Historic warship (1942) museum. Visitors can inspect a fascinating collection of nautical exhibits & memorabilia from the past. Open weekends 12-5 & weekdays by arrangement for schools and groups.
